KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was deeply moved by the death of 5-year-old Asiah Ahmad Syahir in a six-vehicle crash on Jalan Kuching, particularly as he has grandchildren of the same age.
Zahid, who visited the girl's family in Kampung Sungai Penchala earlier today, said it was heartbreaking to see a young life cut short.
"As a grandfather with grandchildren of the same age, I was deeply moved by the loss of a little girl who should have had so much of her life ahead of her.
"It is difficult to imagine the depth of a family's grief when a little child who once brought joy to their home is suddenly no longer with them," he said in a Facebook post.
Zahid expressed his condolences and prayed for the family to remain strong.
He also reminded motorists that a moment of carelessness on the road could have devastating consequences.
"Every decision we make on the road carries responsibility, because a single act of negligence can leave a lasting scar on the lives of others and their families," he said.
Asiah died from severe head injuries following the crash on Oct 10 while travelling with her family along Jalan Kuching towards Segambut.
On Thursday, Raeven Goh Wey Haur, 24, claimed trial at the magistrate's court here to three charges, including dangerous driving causing Asiah's death.
