KB Financial Group said on the 21st that it is running a campaign with the Korean National Police Agency and the Citizens' Coalition for Safety to help prevent voice phishing and other telecommunications-based financial fraud.
The campaign is designed to publicize increasingly sophisticated scam methods, including fake investment chat rooms, deepfake phishing and no-show fraud, and to explain what people should do to avoid becoming victims. Through videos and hands-on programs, it conveys four rules of conduct for handling unfamiliar contact: be suspicious, verify, hang up and report.
The group also released a fraud prevention video featuring announcer Kim Dae-ho. Starting with an episode on fake investment chat rooms released the same day, videos on individual topics will be rolled out in stages through the police agency's integrated response unit for telecommunications financial fraud, KB Financial Group's official social media accounts and the customer areas of KB Kookmin Bank branches nationwide.
KB Financial Group is also operating a fraud prevention experience booth with the police agency at the 8th International Police Industry Expo, which runs through the 24th at Songdo Convensia in Incheon. Visitors can learn scam techniques and countermeasures at zones such as an "audio suspicion zone," which compares normal calls with fraudulent ones, and a "visual suspicion zone," where they look for phishing clues hidden in text messages and social media posts.
An official at KB Financial Group said thorough suspicion toward unfamiliar calls and text messages is the strongest line of defense against voice phishing and scam crimes, adding that the group will strengthen a financial safety net the public can use with confidence and fulfill its social responsibility in finance.
Separately, KB Financial Group has worked with the police agency and the Credit Counseling and Recovery Service since June to provide victims of telecommunications financial fraud with credit and psychological counseling as well as referrals to legal advice. KB Kookmin Bank also runs KB Hope Finance Centers at six locations nationwide, supporting financially vulnerable groups in rebuilding their finances and restoring their credit.
