The OKC Thunder announced Saturday it waived Otega Oweh.
OKC selected Oweh with the No. 41 pick in the 2026 draft and signed him to a two-way contract. It was a full circle moment for the 23-year-old guard, who spent the first two seasons of his college career at Oklahoma before transferring to Kentucky.
But Oweh ruptured his right Achilles tendon during OKC’s preseason game against the Indiana Pacers on Oct. 13. He underwent successful season-ending surgery the following day.

It's a tough setback for Oweh, who has the skill sets to stick in the NBA. He has impressive athleticism, good strength and a relentless motor. That allows him to be a versatile defender and an effective finisher around the rim.
It's possible that Oweh could sign with the Thunder's G League team, the OKC Blue, to remain within the organization while rehabbing. It's something OKC has done in the past with players such as Adam Flagler and Payton Sandfort.
OKC will now fill Oweh's two-way spot with the addition of Micah Peavy. ESPN's Shams Charania reported Friday that the Thunder will sign the former No. 40 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, who spent last season with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Peavy averaged 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 15 minutes per game while shooting 38.5% from the field (25.9% from deep). He's a 6-foot-7 wing who defends multiple positions and makes hustle plays on both ends.
