The Washington Commanders better not have any notable mental lapses in Week 6, because a new rumor claims it is sure to cost Dan Quinn his job as head coach.
After Washington went 12-5 and reached the NFC Championship Game in the 2024 season, it seemed like the team had found the coach who could make them a consistent playoff contender. However, ever since, the Commanders have regressed.
Last season, they finished with a disappointing 5-12 record. Many chalked it up to injuries — specifically to quarterback Jayden Daniels. However, there were some worrisome signs during the 2025 campaign. It put added pressure on the coach to deliver better results in 2026. However, they are 1-3-1 heading into a Week 6 Monday Night Football clash against the San Francisco 49ers.
Their record is bad, but they seemingly hit a low point in the Quinn era last week when the offense completely lost track of how much time was left on the clock in overtime against the New York Giants and blew a chance at a game-winning field goal.
Washington Commanders would need to be blown out by San Francisco 49ers to fire Dan Quinn

It has only reignited the discourse about the 56-year-old’s job security and the idea that he could be the first coach fired in-season. However, according to Tom Pelissero, while owner Josh Harris will be “paying close attention” on Monday night, he “has never been a believer in midseason coaching changes.”
That is why the NFL insider added that unless the Commanders suffer a blowout loss (very possible against a very good 49ers team) or there are obvious signs the team has quit on their coach, “expect Quinn to get the rest of the season to show he can get things turned in the right direction.”
Furthermore, Daniels threw his support behind his coach after he mismanaged their final drive in Week 5, and the NFL insider claims, “Quinn has always had great command of the locker room.”
