At least 11 people were killed and 27 others injured when a tourist bus collided with a tow truck in western Turkey on Sunday, local authorities said.
The accident occurred shortly after 11am local time near a toll booth on the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway in the Akhisar area of Manisa province.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The bus driver was among those injured and was detained by police after being discharged from hospital.
Images from the scene showed extensive damage to the rear of the overturned bus. The tow truck, which was reportedly carrying wooden planks, had also overturned.
Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said in a post on X that all the victims were Turkish nationals. Authorities had yet to confirm whether any foreign nationals were among those killed or injured.
Manisa Governor Vahdettin Özkan visited the scene and said officials were investigating the accident in coordination with the public prosecutor’s office.
He also stressed the importance of complying with traffic regulations to help prevent similar tragedies.
