Bhaktapur, Oct 20: Hundreds of devotees gathered at the historic Taleju Bhawani Temple in Bhaktapur district from early morning today to worship the revered Goddess on Maha Nawani, the ninth day of Dashain.
The Temple opens to the public only once a year, on this auspicious occasion.
Devotees throngs the Temple dedicated to Goddess Taleju Bhawani to worship and offer prayers and seek darshan (obeisance) of the Goddess Taleju Bhawani.
The Temple dedicated to Goddess Taleju Bhawani draws large crowds on this auspicious occasion, as devotees believe that Goddess Taleju Bhawani grants them a rare opportunity for darshan (obeisance) in Maha Navami.
Legend has it that King Jayaprakash Malla played Tripasha, a traditional dice game, with Goddess Taleju Bhawani in the 17th century.
When the King cast an inappropriate glance at her, the Goddess disappeared from his sight.
Following the King’s plea for forgiveness, the Goddess is said to have agreed to appear before devotees only once a year.
This belief has made Maha Navami an especially significant day for worship at the temple.
For many, the annual visit to this scared shrine is a cherished religious tradition and an occasion to seek the Goddess’s blessings.
Located within the historic Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Taleju Bhawani Temple is an important symbol of the Kathmandu Valley’s rich religious and cultural heritage.
The Goddess has long been revered as the tutelary deity of the Malla kings and her worship remains deeply rooted in the Kathmandu Valley’s traditions. (RSS)
