DIMAPUR: Sümi Kukami Hoho (SKH) has appealed to the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) to reschedule the combined staff recruitment examination (CSRE), scheduled for November 14, 2026, as it coincides with Ahuna, the traditional harvest festival of the Sümi community.
In a representation to the NSSB chairman, SKH president Akukau Hetoho S. Zhimomi and general secretary Akukatou Kavito Yeptho said Ahuna held profound cultural, historical and social significance for the Sümi people, forming an integral part of their identity, traditions and collective heritage.
The hoho pointed out that Ahuna was recognised in the Nagaland government’s annual cultural calendar, with its observance associated with November 14.
It said scheduling a major state-level recruitment examination on the occasion created an avoidable conflict for candidates seeking employment through a fair and transparent process while also wishing to honour their cultural traditions. SKH said this placed young candidates in the difficult position of choosing between an important career opportunity and their cultural commitments.
Sümi Kukami Hoho acknowledged the importance of the recruitment process and NSSB’s responsibility to conduct examinations fairly, transparently and impartially.
The hoho clarified that its appeal was neither a demand for preferential treatment nor an attempt to obstruct recruitment, but a request for fair consideration, cultural sensitivity and equal opportunity.
The hoho urged the board to move the examination to a suitable alternative date that did not coincide with Ahuna.
It also called upon the NSSB to take major traditional festivals and significant community observances into account while preparing future examination schedules, so candidates from all communities could participate without facing a conflict between recruitment opportunities and cultural obligations.
SKH expressed hope that the board would give its representation serious consideration in the interests of young people, the Sümi community and the people of Nagaland.
