Madonna’s been having quite the banner year, what with the release of her critically acclaimed Confessions II album, its accompanying short film, and her recent sweep at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. But while she may be the reigning Queen of Pop, Madonna’s not about to let us forget about her most important role as mom.
On Wednesday, the Material Girl offered her fans a peek inside the family photo album, sharing a series of rare, vintage photos and videos in honor of her daughter Lourdes’s 30th birthday.
“Happy Birthday My Lolita!” Madonna wrote (her daughter also goes by the nickname “Lola”). “You came to me in a Dream. A fever dream. A Dream called Life. If I tried to write it all down, I would cry a river of tears.”
Madonna went on to detail the complications she experienced while giving birth to Lourdes, writing: “Your chin was tilted up in my birth canal, you were looking for the stars you were stuck. After 18 hours of labor and your heartbeat slowing down, an emergency C-section was the only option. Did I mention the helicopters and news crews swirling above our heads on the top floor of the hospital in East LA?”
She called Lourdes’s birth “dramatic” and their connection “Biblical.” Meanwhile, she paired the emotional caption with a series of photos from throughout the 30-year-old’s life, including snaps of her as a baby, as a teenager, and as the adult she is today, taking part in modeling shoots and singing under the stage name Lola Leon.

Madonna and Lourdes sit front row at the Tom Ford show back in 2022.
Lourdes is the eldest of Madonna’s six children, and her father is personal trainer and actor Carlos Leon, who Madonna dated from 1995 to 1997. Lola’s younger brother Rocco is her half-brother from Madge’s relationship with Guy Ritchie. And she also has four adopted siblings: David, Mercy, Stella, and Estere.
In recent years, Lourdes has followed in her mom’s footsteps by making her own foray into music. She released her first EP, titled Go, in 2022. And just earlier this year, she co-wrote and sang on the song “The Test” from her mom’s Confessions II. Madonna described their collaboration as a “healing moment” for them after they experienced some strains in their relationship.
To close her caption, Madonna wrote: “We are Two side sides of the same coin. If what we risk reveals what we value then I would risk it all on you. Never forget who you are, Little Star, shining brighter than all the stars in the sky. Never forget how to Dream Butterfly. Never forget where you come from. From Love. ♥️.”
