LOS ANGELES: Shang-Chi star Simu Liu believes his late grandparents were watching over him on his wedding day, after the rain suddenly stopped just as his bride, Allison Hsu, walked down the aisle in France.
The 37-year-old actor married Hsu, 30, vice-president of digital marketing at Interscope Records, on Oct 3 at the 17th-century Château d'Estoublon in Provence.
The couple recently shared details of their special day with Vogue magazine.
Unpredictable weather had threatened the outdoor ceremony with intermittent showers all afternoon.
Guests were still holding umbrellas as the wedding procession began.
However, the rain cleared up right as Hsu appeared, allowing the rest of the ceremony to take place in the dry.
For Liu, that sudden break in the weather felt deeply personal.
His grandparents, whom he affectionately called yeye and nainai, passed away from Covid-19 in 2021.
They had raised him in China until he was four and a half, before he moved to Canada with his parents.
"The rainfall just before our ceremony was the most convinced I have ever been that something greater exists beyond our comprehension," Liu told Vogue.
He recalled that a light drizzle began just as his parents took their seats.
"It seemed so coincidental, the timing and the gentle droplets, as if someone was sending reassurance that they were watching," he said. "A part of me believes they were with us."
Liu shared that he had been dreaming about his grandparents regularly in the months leading up to the wedding.
Although he had not planned to mention them in his vows, the moment moved him to tell Hsu that he believed they would have loved meeting her.
The couple first met at a mutual friend's Fourth of July barbecue in 2022, and Liu proposed in Paris in May 2025.
