Riyadh – Loud explosions were heard in Riyadh on Wednesday, according to AFP, as Saudi Arabia announced it had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile.
Saudi authorities issued a warning via mobile phones about an "air threat," amid escalating attacks by the Yemeni Houthis on the Kingdom.
The warning stated: "The area is under hostile air threat. Please remain calm and stay indoors or in a safe place away from windows and doors, and continue to follow the instructions of the Civil Defense."
Later, the Kingdom announced it had "intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia towards Riyadh."
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia announced it had targeted oil facilities in Yemeni areas controlled by the Iranian-backed Houthis.
The Kingdom said it intercepted cruise missiles and drones over Riyadh and the southern region, while AFP journalists and witnesses reported hearing loud explosions in the capital.
Saudi authorities explained that debris fell in a residential area in Dhahran, home to the headquarters of Aramco, as a result of the missile interception.
Riyadh announced early Wednesday that four people – two women, a man, and a child – were injured by missile shrapnel in the capital, and that an administrative site belonging to Aramco in Dhahran was attacked, causing a small fire but no injuries.
