Newcastle United travel to Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon looking to halt a run of three defeats in their last four Premier League matches.
Matthias Jaissle’s side are 11th in the table with eight points from seven games, having won three of their opening five matches in charge before a recent downturn that includes a 4-1 defeat to Coventry City and a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa. Newcastle have scored just four goals across their last four matches, a marked drop-off from the attacking form that marked the early weeks of Jaissle’s reign. Newcastle sit third-bottom of the Premier League’s form table over the last five matches, underlining the scale of the task facing Jaissle this weekend.
Newcastle United team news
Jacob Ramsey is unlikely to feature because of a thigh injury, with Jaissle keen not to rush the midfielder back into the squad. Tino Livramento (knee) and Ewen Jaouen (thigh) are also out. Matias Fernandez-Pardo is a doubt with illness and Anthony Elanga with a thigh issue, and both will be assessed closer to kick-off.
Harvey Barnes leads the squad for assists and big chances created this season, while only Elanga and Joe Willock have scored more than once. If Elanga is passed fit, he is expected to continue on the left of an attacking trio, but Jacob Murphy and William Osula look the more likely options to support Wissa if he is unavailable. Nico Gonzalez and Joelinton are set to continue as the central midfield pairing, with Lewis Miley, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman and Lewis Hall forming the back four protecting goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.
