Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has visited the mobile laboratory van established for safe food testing. He inspected the mobile laboratory before entering his office at the Secretariat on Wednesday (October 14) morning.
At the Secretariat, he entered the mobile laboratory, which was parked beneath the Prime Minister’s Office at the Cabinet Division, and observed the process of food sample collection and testing. During this time, relevant officials briefed him on the laboratory’s operations.
Officials informed the Prime Minister that food sample testing and monitoring activities have been intensified as part of the anti-adulteration campaign across all 64 districts of the country. As part of this, food testing operations are being conducted through mobile laboratories.
Currently, food sample testing and monitoring are being carried out by mobile laboratories in eight metropolitan areas of the country. There are plans to gradually expand this to all 64 districts.
This initiative is carried out separately through mobile courts led by executive magistrates and under the supervision of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority.
In the current fiscal year 2026-27, the process of acquiring 72 mobile laboratory vans is underway as part of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority’s capacity building project.
The mobile laboratories also have special arrangements to raise public awareness about food safety. Awareness videos on safe food are broadcast on monitors installed on the exterior of the vans.
During the inspection, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Food Minister Afroza Khanam, Government Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, State Minister for Food Abdul Bari, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A.B.M. Abdus Sattar, Public Administration Secretary Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Food.
