Republican donor and former congressional candidate Eric Deters has filed a defamation lawsuit against former U.S. ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle and her lawyers. He announced the case in a video on Thursday and claimed it “might just bring down the entire Trump administration.”
Deters became involved after The Wall Street Journal reported that Guilfoyle asked him in July 2025 to pay her $100,000 American Express bill in exchange for special access to Trump administration officials who could help with his personal tax problems. In messages, she wrote: “You could just send it here. It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express… Please. And I have you down as one of my special guests for my hearing in DC… Honey please I need you to get this done for me today.”
The Journal report, combined with evidence that Guilfoyle had boasted about ties to two Greek tycoons funding her travel, led to her resignation as ambassador this week. She stepped down hours after the White House publicly asked her to leave. In her resignation, she denied the allegations and said she would “vigorously defend” her name and reputation.
Deters is demanding that Guilfoyle and the defendants apologise, admit the texts are fake, confirm he did not blackmail her or owe her money, and pay him $1 million. He has also threatened to subpoena Trump administration officials. He claims to possess a 16-minute phone recording from Greece that he says could damage the JD Vance–Marco Rubio ticket, and promised to release it. He has described Guilfoyle as matching the Greek goddess of deceit and said the lawsuit will not ease her situation after her dismissal.
