The KenGen board announced the appointment following what it described as a rigorous and competitive recruitment process.
Kibet is expected to assume substantive office on 1 February 2027, taking over from Peter Waweru Njenga, who will retire after an extended transition period designed to ensure an orderly handover.
What is Ronoh Kibet's current role?
Kibet currently serves as KenGen's general manager, commercial services, a role in which he oversees energy markets, investments, new business and partnerships, marketing, corporate communication and sustainability.
He brings more than 17 years of professional experience in geothermal development, project delivery, commercial strategy and business growth, including contributions to the Olkaria Green Energy Park and the expansion of KenGen's international consultancy work.
His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication and Information Engineering and a Master of Science in Project Management, both earned at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
He holds certifications as a Project Management Professional and SAP Project System Consultant. His executive education spans institutions such as Harvard Business School, IESE Business School in Spain, the University of Cape Town and Strathmore Business School.
He is affiliated with the Engineers Board of Kenya, the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and the Geothermal Association of Kenya, and is a recipient of the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya.
In announcing the appointment, the board paid tribute to the outgoing chief executive, noting that under Njenga's leadership, KenGen recorded a profit after tax of KSh 10.48 billion in the financial year 2025, while also diversifying its business and growing its geothermal consultancy portfolio to include assignments in Eswatini.
"We warmly congratulate Kibet on his appointment and affirm our confidence in his ability to build on these achievements, develop our people, strengthen performance and lead KenGen's next chapter of growth, innovation and sustainable value creation," the board said in a statement signed by company secretary Austin Ouko.
