ShapeShift is trying to fix that for Starknet users. The multichain swap aggregator now supports Starknet, letting users complete a trade in one swap with no bridge step.
ShapeShift announced the integration on October 16, 2026. Starknet amplified the news a day later, on October 17, 2026, describing the network as now available on the platform.
What the integration actually does
The core change is about friction. Before this, getting value into or out of Starknet through a typical route meant two separate actions: bridging first, then swapping.
Now the platform handles it as a single trade. You pick what you have and what you want, and ShapeShift does the routing behind the scenes.
The integration also involved updates to ShapeShift’s technical configurations to support the new network. The announcement did not name specific tokens or trading pairs included in the launch.
Who’s involved
Starknet is an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution built on zk-STARK technology. Layer 2 networks process transactions off Ethereum’s main chain and then settle back to it, aiming for lower costs and higher throughput.
Starknet has positioned itself around three priorities: scalability, privacy, and interoperability. The ShapeShift integration lines up most directly with the third one.
ShapeShift has been in development since 2014. Today it operates as a community-led multichain swap aggregator. An aggregator does not hold all the liquidity itself. Instead it searches across sources to find a route for a trade.
The platform already supports multiple chains and has recently leaned further into interoperability. In September 2026, ShapeShift released its swap stack as a free widget and API for developers.
That earlier move is relevant context. If developers embed ShapeShift’s swap tooling in their own apps, any new chain ShapeShift supports could potentially travel further than ShapeShift’s own interface.
Why this matters for Starknet and its users
For Starknet, the bigger prize is access. Layer 2 networks compete partly on how easy it is to get money in and out of them.
Plugging into an established multichain aggregator puts Starknet in front of users who may not have gone looking for it. Someone already using ShapeShift for other chains now sees Starknet as just another destination on the menu.
Removing the bridging step could encourage more frequent and smaller transactions, since the overhead of each trade drops. The integration could also lift trading volume on ShapeShift’s platform and user engagement on Starknet. The announcement did not include any volume or usage figures.
The bigger interoperability picture
For traders and investors watching Starknet, the practical signals to monitor are straightforward. Look for changes in Starknet transaction volumes and for any data ShapeShift shares on Starknet-related activity.
Watch, too, whether developers using ShapeShift’s free widget and API start surfacing Starknet swaps inside their own products. That would be the clearest sign the integration is spreading beyond a single front end.
The open question is which assets and pairs see real use once the novelty fades. The announcement left those specifics out, so actual trading behavior over the coming weeks will tell the more useful story.
