Kevin Kisner seemed to drop some hints this week about Tiger Woods’ short-term playing future.
Kisner, the four-time PGA Tour winner who now works as a broadcaster for NBC Sports, said on Barstool Sports’ “Foreplay” podcast that he was told that Woods is planning to play a “full schedule” in the simulator league that he co-founded and could make two tournament appearances later this year.
Kisner was a part of Woods’ Jupiter Links TGL team but his two-year contract wasn’t recently renewed, even with the team rosters expanding to five players.
“Tiger wants to play, and they wanted to sign Keith Mitchell, which is totally fine with me,” Kisner said on the show. “Rob (McNamara], Tiger’s guy, he texted me a long text last week. Just telling me what they did on their decisions, how they were moving around and what players were going to do, and that Tiger wanted to play a full schedule.”
Woods, now 50, only played in the simulator league once last year, and he hasn’t played a competitive tournament since the 2024 Open. He has only been seen sparingly in public this year after he was arrested in March on suspicion of DUI and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He eventually pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of reckless driving.
Woods was not listed in the initial field list for the Hero World Challenge in early December, but the tournament host could invite himself as a special invitation. He has also previously competed in the PNC Championship alongside son Charlie, though the duo didn’t compete last year with Tiger recovering from back surgery.
“He’s going to play both,” Kisner said on the show. “He can’t have any more setbacks injury-wise. The way he was swinging and moving on the range, I mean the guy loves to compete. Come back, get your feet wet at the Hero, play with Charlie in the Father/Son, play some TGL, get ready for Augusta.”
