President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s arrival in Kaduna State for the official flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign has put the spotlight on the Federal Government’s partnership with Governor Uba Sani and its impact on infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic development and security.
The campaign flag-off, scheduled for Saturday, comes amid efforts by the ruling party to showcase the Tinubu administration’s achievements and rally support for his re-election bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kaduna, a major political and economic centre in Northern Nigeria, is expected to provide the APC with a significant platform to highlight its record and outline its plans for the region.
Beyond the music, colour and celebration associated with political campaigns, the event also provides an opportunity to assess the administration’s interventions in Kaduna and the extent to which federal policies have translated into tangible benefits for residents.
At the heart of the APC’s message is the relationship between Tinubu and Governor Sani, whose political association dates back to their involvement in the pro-democracy struggle.
The partnership has been presented as a key factor in attracting federal projects and advancing the Kaduna State Government’s development agenda.
President Tinubu has recognised Sani’s leadership and appointed him a Renewed Hope Ambassador and Deputy Director-General responsible for party outreach, positions that further reinforce the governor’s role in the ruling party’s political mobilisation.
Infrastructure and transportation
Infrastructure is expected to feature prominently in the APC’s campaign narrative, with major road and railway projects offering opportunities to demonstrate the administration’s development priorities.
The 375-kilometre Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway remains one of the region’s most significant road projects, given its importance to passenger movement, commerce and the transportation of agricultural produce.
The Zaria–Kano section has been identified as a major milestone in the project, while improved security along the corridor is critical to restoring confidence among motorists, traders and other road users.
Another strategic project is the 614-kilometre Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, designed to transport natural gas to industries and power generation facilities.
Its completion is expected to support industrial development and strengthen energy supply.
At the state level, the Kaduna Light Rail Transit project has been presented as part of efforts to modernise urban transportation and improve connectivity within the metropolis.
The reconstruction of the Mando–Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road is also expected to improve access to farming communities and facilitate the movement of goods to urban markets.
Other road projects, including the Zaria–Soba–Pambegua and Zaria–Hunkuyi corridors, are intended to strengthen rural-urban connections and support regional trade.
The proposed Kaduna–Kano–Katsina–Maradi railway corridor is another component of the broader transportation agenda, with the potential to improve regional connectivity and expand trade opportunities.
However, the pace of delivery, completion timelines and the actual benefits to residents will remain important measures of the administration’s performance.
Education and healthcare
The Tinubu administration has also pointed to federal investments in education and healthcare as part of its development agenda for Kaduna State.
Among the institutions cited are the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia; the Federal University of Education, Zaria; and the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.
These institutions are expected to expand access to higher education, strengthen teacher training and equip young people with technical and vocational skills relevant to the labour market.
The Armed Forces College of Medicine and Health Sciences is another institution associated with efforts to strengthen medical education and professional training.
The Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan is expected to improve access to specialist healthcare for residents of Southern Kaduna and neighbouring communities.
The impact of these investments will ultimately depend on adequate funding, staffing, infrastructure and the ability of the institutions to provide quality services to the communities they are intended to serve.
Agriculture, industry and housing
Agriculture and industrial development also feature in the state’s economic plans.
The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone project in Daki-Takwas, Chikun Local Government Area, is designed to connect farmers with processing facilities, markets and other elements of the agricultural value chain.
Supported by development partners, including the African Development Bank, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the Islamic Development Bank, the initiative is intended to reduce post-harvest losses, encourage agro-processing and create employment opportunities.
The Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Sobawa, Rigachikun, is another initiative aimed at expanding access to affordable housing, particularly for civil servants and other prospective homeowners.
The Tudun Biri reconstruction project has also been cited as an example of efforts to combine rebuilding with social infrastructure following the tragedy that affected the community.
The project includes 133 housing units, a primary healthcare centre, a primary school and a skills acquisition centre.
If adequately equipped and maintained, these facilities could help improve living conditions and expand access to essential services for residents.
Peace and reconciliation in Kaduna
Beyond infrastructure and economic development, peace and social cohesion remain central to Kaduna’s development prospects.
The state has experienced years of communal tensions and insecurity, particularly in parts of Southern Kaduna and other rural communities.
Governor Sani’s administration has pursued an approach described as the Kaduna Peace Model, with an emphasis on dialogue, inclusion and reconciliation among communities.
The reopening of previously closed schools and the return of pupils to classrooms have been cited as important indicators of improving conditions in some areas.
The administration’s supporters also argue that a more inclusive approach to governance has helped strengthen relations among communities that have historically experienced divisions.
Nevertheless, sustained security improvements, the protection of farming communities and the safe return of displaced residents remain essential benchmarks for evaluating progress.
Tinubu’s appointment of General Christopher Gwabin Musa, first as Chief of Defence Staff and subsequently as Minister of Defence, has also been presented by supporters as an important recognition of Southern Kaduna.
The appointment has symbolic significance for a region that has long sought stronger representation in national decision-making, although the broader impact of government policy will be judged by its outcomes for citizens.
The political stakes
For the APC, the Kaduna campaign flag-off offers an opportunity to link the Federal Government’s national policy agenda with projects and programmes being implemented in the state.
The party is expected to emphasise infrastructure development, education, healthcare, economic opportunities and security as reasons voters should support Tinubu for another term.
The relationship between the President and Governor Sani provides a central political argument: that cooperation between federal and state governments can accelerate development and improve service delivery.
Yet, the strength of that argument will depend not only on the number of projects announced or initiated but also on their completion, accessibility and measurable benefits to residents.
For Kaduna voters, the critical questions include whether roads are safer, schools are functioning, healthcare is accessible, employment opportunities are expanding and communities can live and farm without fear.
As the APC formally begins its presidential campaign in Kaduna, the party will seek to turn its development narrative into electoral support.
Whether that message resonates with voters in 2027 will ultimately depend on how they assess the administration’s record against their daily experiences and expectations for the future.
