Bollywood has closed ranks around Tiger Shroff after the actor narrowly escaped a shooting in Mumbai's Juhu neighbourhood on Sunday evening. The 36-year-old was leaving a football ground after his regular practice session when motorcycle-borne assailants fired several rounds at close range at his moving car near Pushpa Park. Shroff emerged unhurt, but his driver, and an autorickshaw driver were injured.
The attack sent a wave of shock and anger through the film industry, with stars taking to social media in solidarity. Actor Ranvir Shorey called it "shocking, and disgusting", writing on X, "Hope everyone is safe… No mercy for the perpetrators." Veteran actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha described Shroff as the "most loved star" and "worthy son of the most worthy father" Jackie Shroff, adding that Tiger was "lucky to go unhurt".
Filmmaker Rahul Dholakia used sharper language, questioning the state of law and order and demanding that authorities answer for the climate of fear. Actor Poonam Pandey said she was "still struggling to process this… It is truly terrifying", citing the string of recent threats against public figures.
Singer Mika Singh posted a video urging the government to act, saying Mumbai had long been considered one of India's safest cities and that "no one should have to live in fear on the streets of our own city". Among the first to arrive at Shroff's home was close friend and frequent co-star Disha Patani, while his mother, Ayesha Shroff, told reporters simply, "God is great."
As of now, Tiger Shroff himself has not issued an official public statement. He was reported to be "shaken" after the incident and was seen with bandages when Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the family.
The shooting has revived talk of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, after a social media post and audio clip, attributed to the gang but not verified by police, claimed responsibility and renewed threats against those associated with Salman Khan.
Mumbai Police, who have detained three suspects in Rajasthan's Kota, are yet to confirm the gang's involvement. For now, the industry's focus remains firmly on one relieved refrain: Tiger is safe.
