Police are investigating three murders, an attempted murder and an inquest after an off-duty constable allegedly shot three women and injured a man at a KwaMsane liquor establishment before dying by suicide.
Provincial SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police responded to reports of a shooting and found four bodies with gunshot wounds at the scene.
“One victim with a gunshot wound was taken to hospital,” Netshiunda said.
According to Netshiunda, the off-duty constable allegedly shot the three women before turning the firearm on himself. The statement did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
It is also alleged that during the incident, the constable disarmed another man of his firearm.
Police recovered two firearms at the scene.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.
Police have not provided further information about the identities of the deceased or the condition of the injured man.
