JEONNAM-GWANGJU — Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City is launching its 2027 livestock facility modernization program to strengthen the competitiveness of livestock farms.
The program is designed to repair aging barns and improve breeding and disease-control conditions, the city said on the 20th. Eligible projects include new barn construction and renovation, feeding and watering systems, ventilation, milking facilities, disease prevention and pest control equipment, and manure treatment facilities.
Support is provided as loans covering up to 80% of total project costs at an annual interest rate of 2%. Repayment terms include a five-year grace period followed by 10 years of repayment. Farmers cover the remaining 20%.
Applicants must be farms or agricultural corporations that hold a livestock business permit or have completed registration. New entrants qualify if they have at least three years of hands-on experience with the relevant livestock type or have graduated from a livestock-related program at a high school or university. Applicants must submit an application form, a livestock business permit or registration certificate, a certified copy of the land register for the planned site, a land use plan confirmation, a credit report, a business plan and a construction permit to the livestock division of their city, county, town or district office. Agricultural corporations must also submit a certified copy of their corporate registry. Applications close on the 28th.
Recipients will be selected based on a comprehensive assessment of whether permits have been secured, the feasibility of starting within the year, expected productivity gains and policy needs. Final selections are expected in November following review by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
"Through this program, we will raise farm productivity and reduce livestock odors to build a sustainable livestock environment," said Kim Sung-jin, head of the livestock policy division at Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City.
