The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has explained how overseas Pakistanis aged 18 and above can apply for their first National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) through its official Pak ID mobile application.
The online process allows eligible Pakistani citizens to submit applications without initially visiting a NADRA Registration Centre. Applicants must provide the required identity, family, birth or citizenship records, along with documents proving their overseas residence or travel status.
According to NADRA, applicants generally need the CNIC or NICOP number of a parent or blood relative to establish their family connection. Pakistani citizens born abroad may also be required to submit a detailed foreign birth certificate, an S1 form issued by a Pakistani embassy or consulate, or relevant citizenship or naturalisation documents.
Applicants can download the official Pak ID app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, create an account, select the New NICOP option, complete the application form, and upload the required documents. They must also follow the app’s instructions for photographs and biometric verification.
After completing the required steps, applicants can pay the applicable fee and submit their applications through the app. The fee depends on the applicant’s geographical zone and the selected processing category, which may include Normal, Urgent, or Executive service.
NADRA has also outlined alternative verification procedures for applicants who cannot complete biometric authentication online. Depending on the case, applicants may need attestation from an authorised officer, verification through an eligible family member, or additional checks by the authority.
Applicants can track their application status through the Pak ID app. However, NADRA may request additional documents or require an in-person visit if online verification cannot be completed. First-time NICOP applications can also be submitted directly at a relevant NADRA Registration Centre.
