The Green Bay Packers has found its footing after defeating Chicago at home, improving to 3-2 on the season. The early season struggles appear to be fading into the background, though the Packers continue to play without star running back Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs remains on the Commissioner’s Exempt List following his offseason arrest and subsequent guilty plea to misdemeanor charges. The NFL has been seeking video footage of the incident involving Jacobs and his then girlfriend to help determine appropriate disciplinary action. The league has now received a significant update in its efforts to obtain the footage.
“Packers running back Josh Jacobs has filed a civil suit seeking a permanent injunction restricting access to records from his May 23 altercation with a woman at his home,” ESPN’s Rob Demovsky wrote.
Josh Jacobs uncertain status for the Green Bay Packers
The lawsuits could block the NFL from accessing the footage. According to Demovsky, the legal filings came Wednesday, a day after the Hobart/Lawrence Police Department announced it would release certain records with redactions. However, one or more parties involved appealed the decision, putting the release on hold.
Jacobs would receive credit for his time on the exempt list if the NFL issues a suspension, meaning those days would count toward the total length of any disciplinary penalty.

The Packers will look to build on their recent improvement when they welcome Dallas to Lambeau Field on Sunday night. Green Bay would also benefit from Jacobs’ return as soon as possible, with the divisional matchup against the Cowboys scheduled to begin at 8:20 p.m. ET.
