Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced that the government is in the process of replacing the physical birth notification with electronic notifications (e-notification).
Speaking during a rally in Elgeyo Marakwet on Tuesday, October 13, Murkomen said Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties will be the first counties to pilot the new changes the government plans to introduce on how Kenyans get birth certificates.
According to the CS, the plan will be rolled out across the country soon, but will start in the three counties during the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
The move, Murkomen said, will ease the process of getting the birth document by eliminating the frequent long travel by parents to hospitals to get the notifications and to Huduma Centres to get their birth certificates.

"Parents used to travel long distances to get birth certificates. now during mashujaa day, we have pilot projects here in in Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Nandi, and will go across the country very soon to ensure that birth notifications are given online immediately fter birth, no need to go and look for it later," Murkomen stated.
The move will replace the physical birth notification that has been traditionally used when obtaining birth certificates with a digital notification dubbed E-notification, in a move expected to make it easier for parents to register newborns and obtain civil registration documents.
On many occasions, parents have raised concerns over misplacing the physical birth notification, asking Huduma Kenya if there are ways to get the critical birth document without the notification.
The development is expected to reduce reliance on manual processes in birth registration by allowing information captured at health facilities to be shared digitally with civil registration authorities.
According to Immigration Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, the digital birth notification system will be rolled out to hospitals contracted by the Social Health Authority (SHA) within the next three months.
He noted that currently, the Interior Ministry was finalising talks with the Ministry of Health to integrate the civil registration system with hospital management systems.
"We already finalised our engagement with the Ministry of Health, and we shall be rolling it out across all our hospitals that benefit from the SHA. So everybody who benefits from SHA will be benefiting from the process of E-notification," Kipsang said.
"Within the next three months, we shall be able to roll out this system across all our hospitals who benefit from SHA," he added.
The latest announcement comes months after the government announced that Kenyans can now apply for and download their birth certificates online.
