Hanwha's construction division said on the 15th that it has added voice recognition and artificial intelligence photo analysis to its existing safety reporting system to make it easier for construction site workers to flag hazards.
The safety reporting system lets workers identify risks at their sites and report them so they can be fixed. Hanwha's construction division has upgraded the program in stages, introducing anonymous reporting and a mobile platform to encourage participation by site workers.
Previously, workers reported hazards by phone or by scanning a QR code to log into the company's safety and health platform, where they attached photos of the site and typed in a description of the risk. The platform supports 10 languages so that foreign workers can file reports in their native language.
The upgraded system, called Safety Quick Report, adds voice recognition to make reporting easier for foreign and older workers. Workers can dictate reports in the language set on their mobile phones. The company also added an AI photo analysis function that automatically identifies hazards in images and suggests fixes. Reports and their status are managed together through the safety and health platform.
"By combining voices from the field with AI technology, we will continue to improve and expand the safety reporting system and spread a safety culture in which workers take part voluntarily," said Kim Yun-hae, head of safety, environment and management at Hanwha's construction division.
