Queen Suthida took to the skies for a solo flight in a Saab JAS 39C Gripen fighter jet, demonstrating exceptional precision and skill behind the controls. The flight, which took place on Thursday, October 8, marked the first time she piloted a fighter jet entirely on her own.

The news was first shared by Tuko.co.ke, Briefly News' sister publication, which reported that her husband, King Maha Vajiralongkorn, watched the entire operation from the ground before presenting her with a bouquet and an official Gripen Order Golden Patch upon landing. Following her touchdown on the runway at Wing 7 of the Royal Thai Air Force in Surat Thani province, she also performed a traditional bow on the tarmac to show honour and respect.

From commercial cabins to military aviation leadership

Before stepping into her royal role, Queen Suthida spent years building her career in aviation. Having started flying in May 2010, she has logged over 1 188 hours across multiple aircraft types, adhering strictly to Royal Thai Air Force standards throughout her rigorous preparation.

Her extensive flight background includes piloting Boeing 737s and serving as co-pilot to the King on official royal flights, including an international visit to Bhutan in 2025. Her recent solo flight stands as a testament to her perseverance, proving that her commitment to operational excellence remains as strong as ever.
