The government plans to hold retake examinations within 15 days for students who fail in up to two subjects in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, with those failing again potentially being transferred to technical or vocational education.
Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon disclosed the plan while speaking to journalists after inaugurating an orientation course for the 49th Bangladesh Civil Service (General Education) cadre officers at the Rural Development Academy in Bogura today (13 October).
He said students were losing too much time waiting for examinations year after year, prompting the government to consider the proposed retakes. Those who fail to pass the second examination may be moved to technical or vocational education, he added.
Addressing newly appointed education cadre officers at the event, the minister stressed the need for teachers to develop stronger technological expertise as reliance on technology and artificial intelligence grows and students become increasingly proficient in information technology.
He also urged teachers to encourage students who sit at the back of classrooms or hesitate to ask questions, saying it was their responsibility to ensure every student had the opportunity to speak up.
Milon said research was essential to improving education and teachers, adding that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had accorded the education sector the highest priority. He called on teachers to work sincerely, rising above political affiliations, to help build the Bangladesh of the future.
A total of 613 newly appointed general education cadre officers are attending the eight-day orientation course.
Later, the minister inaugurated the Khan Academy Bangladesh educational support programme at 100 more schools in Bogura, Netrokona and Cox's Bazar. He also planted a sapling on the premises of the Rural Development Academy Laboratory School and College.
