Oct. 16 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Eagles signed quarterback Joe Milton off the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Friday.
The Eagles made the move a day after they announced that Jalen Hurts would not play in Week 6 due to a blood clot in his leg. Hurts is out indefinitely due to the condition, which he played through in Week 5.
Second-string quarterback Tanner McKee is set to start against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in Philadelphia. Cole Payton is the Eagles' third-string quarterback.
McKee, a sixth-round pick by the Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft, completed 24 of 43 passes (55.8%) for 274 yards, a score and an interception over four appearances last season. He completed 30 of 45 passes (66.7%) for 323 yards and four scores over two appearances in 2024.
Schottenheimer said the Cowboys are "working through names" when asked about replacing Milton as their third quarterback. Sam Howell is their only backup quarterback, behind starter Dak Prescott.
Milton, a sixth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2024, completed 37 of 53 passes (69.8%) for 424 yards, two scores and two interceptions over five appearances between his 2024 and 2025 campaigns.
The Cowboys (2-3) will play the Green Bay Packers (3-2) at 8:20 p.m. EDT Sunday in Green Bay, Wis. The Eagles (2-3) will host the Panthers (2-2) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
