Prince William recently stole the spotlight with his lively reaction at his beloved team Aston Villa’s game. This comes just days after he recreated team captain John McGinn’s viral wide-eyed celebration. It took place during a casual cricket match outside Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, held to mark the Prince’s forthcoming Earthshot Prize ceremony in Mumbai next month.

The Prince of Wales marked the club’s goals with loud cheers and fist pumps next to his close friends and fellow supporters, Edward Van Cutsem and Ben Dawes. There was no shortage of moments to celebrate, as the side led 3-0 by the break and went on to seal a dominant 6-goal victory without conceding.
For those unfamiliar, Prince William has been rooting for the club since his school years. During a 2015 conversation with BBC presenter Gary Lineker, he opened up about what led him to support the club. The senior royal noted, “All my friends at school were either Man[chester] United fans or Chelsea fans, and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill team. I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.”
William went on to note Aston Villa’s rich legacy. He shared that friends took him to an FA Cup clash between Bolton and Villa in 2000. The Prince recalled sitting with Birmingham fans in a red beanie, enjoying the atmosphere and feeling instantly connected.
The 44-year-old is now passing that passion on to the next generation. His eldest son, Prince George, even joins him at games from time to time.
