Grenadian javelin thrower Anderson Peters has concluded his 2026 international season following an 11-competition campaign that demonstrated sustained consistency at the highest level of the sport, producing 9 podium finishes, including 2 victories, 6 second-place performances and one third-place finish.
The 2-time World Athletics champion and Olympic bronze medallist competed across the Wanda Diamond League, Commonwealth Games, World Athletics Continental Tour, Central American and Caribbean Games and the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship, consistently placing among the leading performers in elite international fields. His campaign included victories in Rabat, Morocco, with 86.08 m, and at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with 83.95 m.
Peters opened his Diamond League campaign with the Rabat victory before taking second in Rome with 83.91 m and Doha with 86.38 m. Between those Diamond League appearances, he also placed second at the 65th Ostrava Golden Spike, recording 84.27 m. His early-season performances established a pattern that would continue throughout the year: repeated podium finishes against some of the strongest javelin fields on the international circuit.
At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Peters advanced to the final and finished fourth with a best throw of 83.88 m. He responded in his next major championship appearance by winning the men’s javelin at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, producing an 83.95 m effort to secure gold for Grenada.
His form strengthened again during the latter stages of the Diamond League season. Peters finished third in Lausanne with 86.69 m, before improving his season best to 86.93 m in Zurich, where he placed second. The Zurich performance ultimately stood as his best mark of 2026. He followed that with another runner-up finish at ISTAF Berlin, recording 83.32 m, before placing fourth with 83.70m at the Diamond League Final in Brussels.
Peters brought his season to a strong close at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest on 13 September, finishing second with 86.18 m. Peters’ runner-up finish provided a valiant conclusion to a season in which he reached the podium in 9 of the 11 competitions included in his international campaign.
“When I look back at the season, I am grateful for the consistency we were able to maintain across a long and demanding competition schedule. Every meet presented a different challenge, and there are performances I am proud of as well as areas where I know there is still more to build. Representing Grenada continues to mean a great deal to me every time I step onto the runway. I am thankful to my coach, my team, my family, my sponsors and everyone at home who continued to support me throughout the season. Now the focus shifts to recovery, evaluating the year properly and getting back to work for what comes next,” shared Peters.
Peters’ 2026 season was also supported by an established network of local and international partners. He continues his brand partnership with Republic Bank (Grenada) Limited and is also an Adidas ambassador. Republic Bank has publicly supported Peters as a brand ambassador and has previously described its investment in him as part of the bank’s wider commitment to youth empowerment through sport and national development.
Commenting on his performance, General Manager Operations, at Republic Bank Mavis Mc Burnie said: “Republic Bank is proud to have played a role in Anderson’s development. His dedication, discipline and consistent performances on the international stage continue to bring immense pride to Grenada. His achievements throughout the 2026 season reflect not only his exceptional talent, but also the perseverance and commitment required to compete among the world’s best. As a bank, we believe in the power of sport to inspire, unite and create opportunities, particularly for our young people.”
Peters now transitions from competition into a period of recovery, assessment and preparation for his next competitive cycle. His 2026 campaign closes with a season-best of 86.93 m, two international victories and a level of podium consistency that reinforced his position among the leading athletes in global men’s javelin.
