When will the new fuel prices take effect?
Under EPRA's standard pricing framework, the announced prices for super petrol, diesel, and kerosene become binding at midnight on the 15th of each month and remain in force for a 30-day cycle through to the 14th of the following month.
The October–November announcement follows this same schedule, meaning the revised pump prices will apply from midnight on October 15, 2026.
The review is conducted in line with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act, 2019, and Legal Notice No. 192 of 2022, which govern how fuel prices are regulated and publicly communicated in Kenya.
EPRA carries out its fuel price review on the 14th of every month. The regulator calculates the maximum prices consumers can be charged at the pump, taking into account factors such as the landed cost of imported petroleum, taxes, levies, and distribution margins.
Where the 14th falls on a weekend or a public holiday, the authority may release its statement slightly outside the standard schedule, though the midnight implementation deadline on the 15th remains fixed.
Kenyans have closely watched monthly EPRA announcements throughout 2026 as global oil market movements and exchange rate fluctuations have influenced local pump prices. The October 14 press conference will give media and the public a direct briefing from senior EPRA officials on where prices are headed for the coming month.
How are international crude oil prices?
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) reported an increase in global crude oil prices in its weekly bulletin published on Friday, October 9, 2026.
According to the report, Murban crude oil prices increased from USD 95.76 per barrel to USD 101.67 within one week.
This represented a rise of USD 5.91 per barrel, equivalent to approximately 6.2%, reflecting an increase in the cost of the oil benchmark used in Kenya's fuel pricing.
