KATHMANDU, Oct 12: The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has warned of taking action against Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that are found charging exorbitant rates from their customers, amid growing concerns on the companies charging excessive internet charges.
Through a notice, the NTA has reminded the companies of the provisions of section 42 of the Telecommunications Act 1996.

NTA Assistant Spokesperson Pradip Paudyal said according to that arrangement, the service provider who has received a license from the authority must be approved by the authority for the fee rate charged for providing the service to the customer, and the details of the approved fee rate must be made public.
But recently, some internet companies have not published the details of approved rates and packages. On top of that, the packages that have been provided in the past are being changed without the approval of the regulator and the prices are being increased and the consumers are being harassed.
In the NTA notification, the regulator has warned the concerned ISPs from not charging excess than the agreed package rate from their customers.
In order to protect the right of the consumer to choose the package voluntarily, it is mentioned in the notice to publish the complete details of all internet packages and conditions approved by the authority on their respective websites, mobile apps and customer service centers in a clear and transparent manner and to implement them accordingly.
Any companies failing to do so will be taken actions by the regulator, cautioned the NTA.
