On Sunday afternoon, the Warriors' annual open practice - normally a cushy chance for Bay Area masses to get an up-close look at the roster - erupted in a cacophony of stunned gasps.
Midway through Golden State's near-full-speed scrimmage, star Stephen Curry appeared to slip and tweak his right leg. Curry flipped the ball away and limped off the floor, grimacing in obvious pain.
Curry went straight to the locker room, and remained there for the duration of the Warriors' scrimmage.
It was the worst sight imaginable for Golden State, after Curry missed two months of the season in 2025-26 with bone bruising and patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee. The Warriors have taken an intentional plan through the preseason to ramp up Curry slower than usual, including off days for specific practices.
Curry averaged 13.0 points per game in 18.0 minutes per game this preseason, his fewest average minutes in any preseason of his career.
