Rodoljub Sabic, a member of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) Council, questioned the validity of a statement issued by REM on Friday regarding alleged election silence violations by TV channels N1 and Nova, noting that none of the Council’s independent members were ever shown the document.

“What kind of document is this? Who is behind it? This was never on the agenda of a REM Council session! None of the independent Council members have ever even seen it. Who signed this?” Sabic wrote on his X account.
Earlier on Friday, REM issued a statement claiming that “program content conflicting with pre-election silence regulations was observed on N1 and Nova S.”
“The expert staff of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media notified the editors of the aforementioned stations regarding the flagged content, reminding them of their obligation to comply with regulations governing media service providers during election campaigns, including respect for the pre-election silence period,” the statement read. The document failed to specify the exact nature of the violations, listing only the precise times the segments aired.
According to REM, N1 breached election silence between 8:03 am and 8:04 am, and again from 8:21 am to 8:22 am, when an anchor discussed threats received by Radar journalists Milan Radonjic and Vuk Cvijic following their investigative report on ties between former Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic and the cartel of accused drug lord Darko Saric.
REM has not responded to numerous instances of election silence violations across pro-government media outlets.
