The UN shared the announcement on X on Monday, October 12, outlining the key eligibility criteria for prospective applicants.
Who qualifies for the UN's YPP?
To be considered for the programme, candidates must be nationals from a participating country, be aged 32 or younger by the end of 2026, hold a relevant bachelor's degree or its equivalent, and be fluent in either English or French.
The UN confirmed that work experience is not a prerequisite for entry.
"No work experience required," it stated.
The YPP functions as a competitive entrance examination process, followed by structured professional development for successful candidates once they join the organisation.
The examination is held annually and covers different subject areas each year, depending on the staffing needs of the UN Secretariat.
The list of participating countries also changes from year to year.
How to apply for the UN programme
Applications for the YPP typically open in June each year, and all candidates are required to submit their applications through Inspira, the UN's official recruitment platform.
Career expert Simon Ingari echoed this point, advising those interested to follow the correct channels.
"For the UN: apply strictly through Inspira/UN careers system," he told TUKO.co.ke.
Ingari can be reached via cv@oyk.co.ke.
The programme represents one of the few pathways into the UN system that does not require professional experience, making it particularly relevant for recent graduates seeking to enter international public service at the start of their careers.
Which jobs did UNEP announce?
In related news, we also highlighted facts about UNEP’s latest job and internship vacancies in Nairobi and other cities worldwide.
It explained how applicants can submit their applications.
Applicants must register on the UN’s Inspira platform and complete a role-specific online form, as the organisation does not accept standard CVs or resumes.
