The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has taken its cybersecurity awareness campaign to the streets of Abuja, urging Nigerians to adopt safer online practices amid rising digital threats.
The roadshow, organised as part of the 2026 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, is being held under the theme, “Together for a Safer Cyberspace”.
NITDA, through its Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Team, CERRT.NG, said digital safety was a shared responsibility requiring the active participation of individuals, businesses and institutions.
The agency warned against emerging threats involving artificial intelligence, including deepfake impersonation, voice cloning and fraudulent QR-code scams, also known as quishing.
During the Abuja outreach, officials distributed flyers highlighting nine cybersecurity hygiene tips and engaged residents on practical ways to protect themselves against online fraud and other digital threats.
NITDA advised Nigerians to use strong, unique passwords, enable multi-factor authentication and regularly update their devices and applications.
It also urged citizens never to disclose personal identification numbers (PINs) or one-time passwords (OTPs), while warning them to remain alert to voice phishing, known as vishing, and SMS phishing, or smishing.
Other recommended measures include securing home Wi-Fi networks, backing up important data and avoiding excessive disclosure of personal information online.

The agency said adopting these precautions would strengthen individual and collective defences against cyberattacks and contribute to a safer digital environment.
