New York City Mayor and unabashed Arsenal fan Zohran Mamdani saw the chance to poke fun at Liverpool and Manchester City, and took it expeditiously.
Mamdani has made his love and passion for soccer, especially Arsenal, no secret, often voicing his support for the team.
However, as a passionate soccer fan, Mamdani is not above taking jabs at his team’s rivals, even in his position as the Mayor of the Big Apple.
Zohran Mamdani pokes fun at reporter who is a Liverpool fan after Manchester City loss
While holding a press conference to announce an economic development plan for the city, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was in a playful mood.
He noticed a reporter he was on good terms with ask a question, and asked him how he was feeling after their loss to Manchester City.
Zohran Mamdani: “How’s it going? How are you as a Liverpool fan right now? You got beat by a team that shouldn’t be in the league, but anyway…”
Mamdani was, of course, referencing Liverpool’s 0-3 loss to Manchester City at home this past weekend, with Enzo Maresca’s squad upsetting their rivals.
On top of that, Mamdani’s ‘shouldn’t be in the league’ comment was a reference to Manchester City’s recent scandal, in which they were found to have allegedly misreported their finances.
Manchester City are in the process of appealing the Premier League’s recent verdict, thus extending the adjudication period on the matter.
As an Arsenal fan, Manchester City must have been a thorn in Mamdani’s side, given how they have bested the Gunners several times in their title races.
It took Arsenal till last season to finally get the better of their rivals in sky blue, as they broke a 22-year drought and won the Premier League.
