The Dallas Cowboys have not had the start to the 2026 season they hoped for. Dallas is 2-4 on the season and still struggling on the defensive side of the ball. But the Cowboys could still make a bold move at the trade deadline that rescues the entire season.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimerdropped an attention-grabbing quote about Jerry Jones’ willingness to upgrade the roster.
“No. 1, Jerry is never afraid to make moves. No. 2, we’ve got a lot of football left. And we’re excited about winning a big game in Philadelphia on Monday,” Schottenheimer said, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

Jones talked about the state of the team at league meetings in New York on Wednesday. He sees the chaos in the NFC East division this season as an opportunity for Dallas to make a comeback.
“It gives me a lot of promise,” Jones said, per Machota. “I see opportunity, and I see it legitimately because I know the things that we have the potential to do, both with our talent, both with our schemes, adjustments, I’ve seen us do (it) in the spring, the kinds of adjustments that you might want to do between the halves.”
Make no mistake, Jones is not happy with his team’s record. But he also sees their potential and is confident they can turn things around.
“I’m frustrated and I’m disappointed that we’re sitting here with this record. But I sure know (what) we have in place,” Jones concluded. “It’s not internal, it’s from within the (looking in the) mirror, is what everybody’s got to look for. And I’m not just talking about mentality. … I’m talking about technical, and it’s all those coaching terms. You want to talk about all the terms you heard during training camp. It’s not a cliché.”
Getting an easy win on Monday Night Football would be a great start for Dallas.
Cowboys at Eagles kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Oct. 26 from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
