The hunt for the perfect pair of leggings is my life’s work. As a marathon runner and regular gymgoer, one of my main bugbears is when the pocket in my leggings isn’t secure enough for my phone, leaving it jiggling around and causing my leggings to sag. It’s annoying, distracting, and frankly, looks awful.
A good pair of leggings should be supportive yet stretchy, comfortable and lightweight, capable of wicking away sweat, and definitely not see-through. I’ve tried hundreds of leggings in my time (my wardrobe consists of more gym wear than actual clothes at this point) and it’s not often I find a pair that ticks all the boxes. In fact, I often feel let down by my leggings.
However, I recently tried out Gymshark’s new Running Pocket Leggings, an affordable design with multiple pockets for your phone, wallet and keys, and they were a revelation. I also gave them to two other fitness fans in the GH team who put them to the test. Read on for our verdict (and whether they live up to the likes of Sweaty Betty and Lululemon).

What we liked about the Gymshark Running Leggings
Your phone doesn’t jiggle around
When I’m going out for a run or walk, I always carry my phone and my keys with me and my biggest pet peeve with leggings is when, one, they don’t have any pockets, and, two, the pockets aren’t sturdy enough and your phone ends up pulling the leggings down…cue frantically yanking them back up every two minutes.

These leggings have been a pleasant surprise though. The phone pockets are supportive, so your tech doesn’t jiggle around when you’re jogging and there’s a third secret pocket in the waistband for your keys. Quite a few leggings are let down by their pocket situation, so I feel like I’ve won the lottery with three decent pockets that are actually useful.
They’re comfortable and don’t lose their softness after washing
Made with nylon and elastane, these leggings were impressively thick while still being stretchy and soft. And our two other GH testers agreed with me.
“I really thought Gymshark wasn’t for me, but I couldn’t have been more wrong,” says Laura Cohen, Director of the Good Housekeeping Institute. “I’m very pleasantly surprised and love the feel.” Laura also noted how well they washed, maintaining their soft feel and flattering shape.
I really liked the four-way stretch fabric too. I felt like I could move freely during gentle yoga and when tackling more intense interval training sessions. They’re squat-proof too which gave all three of us extra confidence in the gym.

“I loved the flattering design and colour ,which motivated me to get out the door and go!” says Mel Giandzi, GH Multiplatform Manager. “The size was perfect with the right amount of stretch and movement too.”
They’re a fraction of the price of competitors
It’s not often I can find a really good pair of leggings that don’t cost a fortune, but these definitely score highly when it comes to value. A similar style at Sweaty Betty will set you back around £90, while Lululemon leggings can cost up to £118, making Gymshark a much cheaper alternative and a great option if you’re new to running or want to mix things up with gym sessions, too. They’re affordable, comfy, and the flattering design will give you an extra boost of confidence.
I’ll be adding one of the other colourways to my stash before the colder weather comes and I have to retire my running shorts…
