King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted a lively evening reception on Wednesday to celebrate the Commonwealth diaspora at St James’s Palace. The monarch looked smart in a classic navy suit while the Queen opted for a pretty polka dot dress, and eagle-eyed royal fans may notice that it is not the first time she has worn this lovely look.
The dress is a navy-and-white polka-dot midi style designed by her go-to label, Fiona Clare. It features a fitted cut, slightly flared skirt and a striking white lapel and collar. Camilla finished off the look with black pointed court shoes, creating an elegant ensemble.

In April 2025, the royal first debuted the stunning style during an official state visit to Italy. A month later, she slipped into it once more when the UK was in the throes of a heatwave at a royal engagement at Westminster Abbey.
Clearly, it is a trusty favourite of the Queen's - and we can see why. Not only is it a comfortable style, but it's perfectly versatile for day and night occasions. Plus, rewearing outfits is something her husband champions as a big advocate for sustainability.
Inspired by Princess Catherine?
Camilla's polka-dot dress has drawn comparisons with an iconic outfit previously worn by the Princess of Wales. The outfit strongly mirrors the gorgeous Alessandra Rich dress that Princess Catherine wore for King Charles's 70th birthday portraits in 2018.
Fun polka dots are one of the Princess' go-to prints, and we've seen her sport dresses with this design for appearances at places like Royal Ascot, Wimbledon and The Service of Thanksgiving.
"There is a reason the Princess of Wales returns to this print time and again," says our Digital Luxe & Commerce Editor Hollie Brotherton. "It’s timeless, it’s respectful, and it never feels like she’s trying too hard."
Some would say Princess Diana was the original polka-dot princess. In 1988, Diana donned a monochrome polka-dot midi dress for Royal Ascot. It featured a black spotted print set against a white backdrop, a high-rise neckline, long sleeves and a floating skirt. She paired it with a matching hat for maximum impact.

The history of polka dot fashion
The print first peaked in popularity in the 1920s, before another boom in the 1950s thanks to the likes of Lucille Ball and Marilyn Monroe. It's also a favourite of Queen Letizia of Spain, who's worn several polka dot dresses while out on royal engagements.
