Kuwait has explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation with the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan in food security, agriculture, veterinary medicine and sustainability, with discussions focusing on expertise exchange, workforce development and expanding trade in food products.
Minister of State for Development and Sustainability Dr. Reem Al-Fulaij held separate meetings with British Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Qudsi Rashid and Azerbaijani Ambassador H.E. Emil Karimov at the Environment Public Authority (EPA) headquarters according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
During her meeting with ambassador Rashid, Al-Fulaij said the discussions covered ways to develop Kuwait’s food security system and improve the efficiency of the authorities responsible for food and agriculture. The two sides also examined cooperation in veterinary medicine, including the potential to draw on British expertise to train and recruit specialised veterinary professionals to support Kuwait’s veterinary sector.
Academic and training partnerships with British educational institutions were also discussed, in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, with the aim of developing national expertise in veterinary medicine. Trade cooperation featured prominently in the talks, particularly opportunities to expand food-product trade and create new avenues for marketing Kuwaiti products in British markets, subject to applicable requirements and standards.
Both sides stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in agriculture, food production and sustainability, as well as exchanging expertise to strengthen food security and advance the Sustainable Development Goals. In her separate meeting with ambassador Karimov, Al-Fulaij discussed ways to deepen Kuwaiti-Azerbaijani cooperation in environmental and development-related fields.
The talks addressed food security, the exchange of agricultural expertise, land reclamation and opportunities to increase trade in food products between the two countries. The two sides also explored closer coordination on environmental initiatives and sustainable development, highlighting the scope for greater cooperation in areas of shared interest.
The meetings reflected Kuwait’s efforts to broaden international partnerships and draw on foreign expertise to strengthen food security, develop specialised national capabilities and advance environmental sustainability.
