The West Indies cricket team arrived in Dhaka on Sunday ahead of their two-Test series against Bangladesh, with Shamar Springer drafted into the squad following Keemo Paul’s withdrawal for personal and family reasons.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced the change on Sunday, confirming Springer’s inclusion in the 15-member squad for the series later this month.
Ojay Shields and Nial Smith were also considered as possible replacements, but injuries ruled both players out. Paul had originally joined the squad as a replacement for fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who was rested to manage his workload.
Joseph and Paul will both be unavailable for the Bangladesh series, while white-ball skipper Shai Hope has also been rested despite his recent impressive performances.
The visitors will play a two-day warm-up match in Dhaka on 22 October before the opening Test begins in Mirpur on 28 October. The second Test is scheduled to get underway in Sylhet on 5 November.
West Indies Test squad: Roston Chase (captain), Jomel Warrican (vice-captain), Joshua Bishop, John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, Shamar Springer and Kevin Wickham.
