Comedian Prince Kwame Amoabeng has revealed that he feels stuck with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after campaigning for the party during the 2020 general elections.
During the elections, he faced backlash for publicly declaring his support for the party. However, he said the criticism did not bother him because of the environment in which he grew up.
He later explained that his decision to support the NPP was largely driven by its Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, citing his passion for education.
In a recent interview with Nikki Samonas on Joy Prime, the comedian stated that his support for the party has left him feeling stuck with it, as the Free SHS policy played a major role in enabling his youngest sibling to complete senior high school without paying tuition fees.
“I believe that Free SHS was something that really put people on; students went to school and that’s the reason I got love for it. Our last born went to Labone Senior High School for free. Had it not been it, probably our last born may not have been able to go to school because it wasn’t easy. So I decided that for all children to go to school, then let me go for NPP and I’m stuck there,” he said.
For Ntatia, the criticism stemmed from people’s lack of understanding of his circumstances, as life became increasingly difficult following the loss of both parents. He had to take responsibility for his younger siblings’ education and upkeep.
He revealed that he began caring for his siblings while still at university and could not bring himself to abandon a policy he believed would help ease his financial burden.
“People don’t understand, by then my parents were gone and Free SHS really helped.”
He also urged Ghanaians to vote for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 general elections.
