DIMAPUR: A convergence meeting on strengthening Routine Immunization (RI) was held on October 16 at the conference hall of the Chief Medical Officer’s office, Mokokchung, organised by TATTVA Foundation and UNICEF.
Welcoming the participants, Dr. Takosunep Ao, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Mokokchung, spoke on the collective role of stakeholders in protecting children through vaccination. Dr. Limanaro, DPO (UIP & RCH) Mokokchung, made a detailed presentation on the benefits of routine immunization and its minor side effects. She noted that vaccine hesitancy stems largely from lack of awareness and ignorance, and urged members to take ownership in educating communities. She stressed that strengthening routine immunization was not only the responsibility of the medical department but also of allied departments, civil societies and stakeholders working together to safeguard the community.
Wapang Imsong, District Coordinator, TATTVA Foundation, presented the routine immunization situation in the GAVI intervention block and highlighted reasons for children not being vaccinated in the community.
The meeting also featured convergence discussions on how departments and organisations such as Education, NSRLM, ICDS, Mokokchung Municipal Council, churches and civil society groups could integrate immunization support into their routine work.
The programme was attended by members of allied departments, civil societies, stakeholders, DPMU and staff of the CMO office.
