KUALA LUMPUR: A 39-year-old man from Negri Sembilan was arrested by Indonesian Customs officers after arriving at Kualanamu International Airport in North Sumatra at 8am today.
The suspect arrived on an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur, according to Indonesian news portal Analisadaily.com.
An unidentified Kualanamu Customs officer said the man was detained after authorities became suspicious during routine checks on his person and belongings at the international arrivals terminal.
"During a manual inspection, officers found powdered syabu hidden in the folds of banknotes kept in the suspect's trouser pocket," the officer was quoted as saying.
The report said the suspect was subjected to a thorough inspection after authorities found that he had frequently travelled to Indonesia, raising their suspicions.
Following his arrest, the suspect and the suspected 1.5g consignment of syabu were handed over to the Deli Serdang Police Narcotics Investigation Unit for further investigation.
