Kochuri for breakfast, mutton for lunch, phuchka in the evening and biryani for dinner — much of our Durga Puja menu may have looked like this. Now, as we return to our regular lives, it is time to reset our bodies and give our tummies a break from rich, oily food. And nothing beats the comfort of home-cooked food. Here are five delicious dishes to make at home and allow your body to get ready to hog again during Kali Puja and Diwali.
Phena bhaat

Easy to make and tasty, Phena Bhaat is one dish you can never go wrong with. When you want to have something simple, but don’t feel like cooking, you can simply take some aromatic Gobindobhog rice and sona moong dal, and boil them together with vegetables of your choice. Relish with alu makha and boiled eggs. Top with some ghee and enjoy! You can check out a recipe here.
Patla machher jhol

It is time to get back to having sada bhaat with patla machher jhol. The last of seasonal parwal is going to soon disappear from the market. Before it does, relish the katla or rui machher jhol with alu and potol. Fried fish cooked in a tomato-ginger light gravy with bhat is the perfect comfort food for post-pujo lunch. Check a recipe here.
Chicken shorba

There’s a nip in the air post-sunset, and the heart might want something warm and hearty. If you want to keep dinner light, try making a simple chicken shorba. The flu season is also here, and if you have congestion or a runny nose, this dish can give you some relief. Here’s a recipe you can follow.
Dalia khichuri
4 5
If khichuri is your way of eating something easy and tasty, then ditch the rice and try dalia khichuri. To make it filling and healthy, add in vegetables like green peas, beans, carrots or even potatoes! Cook with sona moong dal and finish with a drizzle of ghee. Keep it runny if you like patla khichuri. Check the full recipe here.
Dim bhapa
5 5
Want no fish, mutton or chicken? Egg can be your pick if you still want a non-vegetarian dish. Dim bhapa is easy yet tasty. If you don’t want to eat a rich dim-er kosha, but still want a gravy-based boiled egg dish, then this is the recipe for you. Boiled eggs are steamed with a mustard-poppy seed paste. The texture is rich but goes well with plain rice. You can skip the mustard and use poppy seeds only. Check recipe here.
