Barcelona defender Xavi Espart has made history in the Champions League with the goal that he scored at Parc des Princes last night.
The teenager became the youngest Spanish defender to score in the competition, surpassing a record previously held by Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos.
Espart achieved the milestone at just 19 years and 152 days, beating Ramos’ previous mark of 19 years and 251 days by 99 days.
Espart makes history despite Barcelona’s defeat
The achievement came during Barcelona’s 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, a difficult evening for Hansi Flick’s side despite the individual milestone.
Espart’s goal represents a significant moment in his young career, particularly given the level of opposition and the importance of the European stage.

Surpassing Ramos is also noteworthy considering the former Real Madrid captain’s remarkable Champions League legacy.
Espart’s performance last night yet again underlined the obvious quality he has and his readiness for this level.
Another encouraging sign for La Masia
Espart’s growing involvement comes at an important time for Barcelona, who are dealing with defensive injuries ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico.
With Eric Garcia unavailable and Jules Kounde facing a race to recover, the youngster could have an important role against Real Madrid.
His emergence gives Flick another option while demonstrating the value of Barcelona’s continued investment in academy development.
However, scoring a historic Champions League goal is only one part of a defender’s development that is progressing at a rapid rate.
Espart also showcased his ability to handle one-v-one situations against Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and later Desire Doue.
The former, in particular, did not have any joy against the Barcelona teenager before being taken off with an injury.
Considering the kind of form he is showing, it is easy to have massive expectations of the Spaniard ahead of upcoming games.
However, Barça must be patient with his development and understand that things will not always go his way.
Breaking a record held by Sergio Ramos is always an impressive early achievement, and it remains to be seen how he fares in the coming games.
