Kathmandu, October 14
Former Ireland cricketer Kevin O’Brien has joined Himalayan Sports as an expert analyst for the special broadcast of the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
O’Brien will feature throughout the tournament on Red Bull Cricket Live, in association with Bajaj Pulsar, which will be broadcast by Himalayan Sports.
O’Brien is widely remembered for his remarkable innings against England in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Chasing England’s target of 328 in Bengaluru, Ireland were struggling at 111 for five when O’Brien produced a stunning century off just 50 balls, setting a record for the fastest century in World Cup history at the time.
He went on to score 113 off 63 balls, helping Ireland secure a historic three-wicket victory over England in one of the most memorable upsets in World Cup cricket.
O’Brien is also familiar with Nepal’s cricket scene, having participated in various franchise tournaments in the country. He served as head coach of Biratnagar Kings in the inaugural NPL in 2024.
Himalayan Sports expects his experience as both a player and coach in Nepal’s franchise cricket, alongside his international expertise, to add depth to the broadcast. His understanding of Nepal’s cricketing development, domestic talent and competitive environment is expected to offer viewers valuable insights.
O’Brien will be joined by former Star Sports presenter Navneeth Krishna, who will host Red Bull Cricket Live. Krishna has experience presenting major international cricket tournaments and has worked with Star Sports and the digital platform of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has also been involved in broadcasts of franchise cricket tournaments in Nepal.
Former Nepal national cricketer and cricket entrepreneur Bardan Chalise will also join the analysis panel. Having represented Nepal in international cricket, Chalise has been involved in franchise team ownership and management. He is a former co-owner of Lumbini All Stars and has served as cricket director of Janakpur Bolts.
His experience as a player and franchise executive is expected to bring additional technical and commercial perspectives to the programme.
Himalayan Sports said it plans to bring more prominent international and Nepali cricket personalities into its broadcast panel, with further announcements to be made in the coming days.
Through Red Bull Cricket Live, in association with Bajaj Pulsar, viewers will have access to in-depth pre- and post-match analysis, tactical discussions, player performance reviews, expert perspectives and special cricket conversations.
Himalayan Sports aims to deliver an international-standard broadcast experience to Nepali cricket fans during the third edition of the NPL.
