FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas football is in the midst of its only idle week during the 2026 season, but that doesn't mean Ryan Silverfield is escaping some tough questions about his program.
Fresh off the Razorbacks (3-4, 1-3 SEC) first conference victory in two years, Silverfield jumped on the Morning Mayhem radio show with host David Bazzel on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Toward the end of the interview, Bazzel asked Silverfield if he's heard any progress surrounding the ongoing athletic-department review that was announced by the university's Board of Trustees on Sept. 18.
Silverfield did not dive into specifics, but he did present a positive outlook.
"I know the review's going quite well, and I've had great conversations with our leadership," Silverfield said. "I am very, very confident that we are going to be, and have the necessary resources to in the future, in 2027 and beyond."
UA System President Jay Silvera is leading the review, which has a focus on improving the resources available to the football program. The resolution was approved in unanimous fashion during a Board of Trustees meeting. It was proposed by Trustee Ashley Caldwell and seconded by Trustee Steve Cox.
The resolution came during a week where Arkansas football was under fire following a blowout road loss to Utah. There has been no shortage of criticism from fans directed at athletic director Hunter Yurachek.
Since then, the New York Times revealed that Arkansas has the cheapest roster budget in the SEC. Silverfield also hinted at being hamstrung this past offseason with the available finances.
"We replaced 80 players and we did it to the best of our ability with the resources that were allotted to us," he said on Oct. 5, two days after a blowout loss to Texas A&M.
Silverfield sounded assured that things will be different this coming offseason.
"The leadership has been working hard to get us to where we need to be," Silverfield said Wednesday. "I have the upmost confidence that we will actually be in the right position to go have success. It puts a big smile on my face, because that's huge news for our fans. It's huge news for our football program."
