Black Meteors head coach Desmond Ofei has named a 32-man squad to begin preparations for Ghana’s upcoming CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against Libya.
The team is expected to assemble at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Monday, October 12, as the technical team steps up preparations for the two-legged encounter scheduled for the November 9–17 international window.
Six foreign-based players are also expected to join the squad ahead of the qualifiers, with the technical team set to reduce the numbers as preparations progress.
The locally based players are expected to remain in camp until the matches, although clubs may request temporary releases to allow their players to feature in domestic league fixtures.
Ghana will travel to Libya for the first leg before hosting the return fixture. The Black Meteors must win on aggregate to advance to the final qualifying round, where they will face either Equatorial Guinea or Niger.
The qualifying campaign will determine the seven teams that join hosts Egypt for the eight-team U-23 AFCON finals, which also serve as Africa’s qualification pathway to the men’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Ghana last featured in the men’s Olympic football tournament at the 2004 Games in Athens and will be hoping to end that long absence by successfully navigating the qualifying rounds.
