The victory came in the immediate aftermath of the reported verdict on the club's 115 Premier League financial charges.
What did Maresca say after the Liverpool win?
Maresca acknowledged the storm of criticism surrounding City but made clear he expected his players to channel the pressure into performance.
"The noise will always be there so we need to learn how to deal with that but at the same time we need to try and bring our noise, which is win games which is what we have done today," he said. He added: "You cannot imagine how happy I am."
The first half ended goalless, with Liverpool applying early pressure. The contest shifted decisively in the 62nd minute when Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was dismissed after picking up a second yellow card. Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola reportedly described the decision as "very soft."
City wasted little time exploiting the numerical advantage. Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, his left-footed strike deflecting past goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Jérémy Doku doubled the lead four minutes later with a curling effort from outside the penalty area that found the far top corner.
Rayan Cherki completed the scoring in the 78th minute after combining with Joško Gvardiol inside the box.
City finished the match with 65% possession and 15 total shots compared to Liverpool's 10, though the hosts edged the shots-on-target count five to four.
Before the match, Maresca had already spoken publicly about Manchester City's financial case.
He defended the club's record of success as the product of hard work, expressed confidence in the club's leadership as it prepares to appeal the verdict, and said the situation would not have deterred him from taking the job at the Etihad.
He also urged his squad to stay focused on their campaign for the Premier League title.
The victory kept City's record perfect through six matches, moving them three points clear of Arsenal at the summit of the Premier League table. Liverpool, meanwhile, suffered their first league defeat under Iraola and dropped to ninth place.
